Dritte Auflage = Third edition

Wien : Wiener Urtext Edition, ©2000 (stampa 2013)

Abstract: Description urtext edition: Johann Sebastian Bach's seven Toccatas for Clavier BWV 910-916 count among his most important youth works in which a "youthfully stormy, spontaneous" creativity (Klaus Wolters) unfolds. Christian Eisert only recently illuminated the confused nature of their transmission - not one autograph for any of the Toccatas has survived - for the first time. His research findings have also become the basis of the present new edition. The oldest sources and those closest to Bach's circle form the basis of this edition's musical text that also includes further earlier versions of BWV 912 and 913. In addition a richly ornamented version of the Toccata BWV 916 is also reproduced enabling insights into performance practice in Bach's day and presenting a welcome enrichment for study and concert purposes. Reviews: (...) The far less well-known toccatas should be investigated by potentially jaded teachers and recitalists looking for extended single movement: the joyous D major appears here in two versions, as do the D minor and G major. Bach, Johann Sebastian <1685-1750>

Französische Ouvertüre = French overture : BWV 831/831a / Johann Sebastian Bach ; nach den Quellen herausgegeben und kommentiert von Ulrich Leisinger ; Fingersätze und Hinweise zur Interpretation von Michael Behringer

Zweite Auflage = Second edition

Wien : Wiener Urtext Edition, ©2000 (stampa 2015)

Abstract: Description urtext edition The so-called 'French overture' BWV 831 along with the 'Italian concerto ' F major BWV 971 form the second part of the Clavier-Übung by Johann Sebastian Bach. To make the difference between the two styles as clear as possible Bach chose the tonality of B minor for the overture and transposed a clavier-suite in C minor, which had been written for connoisseurs only a few years before. The comparison between the two versions becomes particularly interesting in view of the fact that Bach changed many details of the original work when copying it and made performance practice indications more precise. Reviews: (...) Bach originally composed the B-minor French Overture (actually a full multi-movement suite) a semitone higher. Both versions appear here, the rhythms of the earlier overture being notated more simply, the later more accurately (performance-practice students take note).
